This mobile app is used to evaluate optimal machining parameters for WEDM. The Wire
Electrical Discharge Machining is a highly complex machining process that is characterised by
non-linear behaviour. The WEDM process is used in various manufacturing industries to obtain
machining complex shapes of hard materials with high accuracy and fine surface finish. The
application software is developed to automate the capabilities for WEDM to understand the
interaction mechanism of various input parameters to get the requisite output measures or
parameters like machining current, cutting speed, spark gap, MMR and surface finish, etc.
Currently, to get the desired output measures WEDM depends mainly on the operator’s
experience and trial and error methods.
To overcome this, this app is developed for predicting output measures or parameters based
on the input parameters in WEDM. In this app, the input parameter such as the type of
material and thickness is given to obtain the desired parameters like discharge current,
cutting speed, spark gap, material removal rate, power and surface roughness. This app was
tested and validated with the experimental data in which the desired accuracy is observed.
The app is very user-friendly that would save time, process planning, and also cost. The
machining parameters can be set on the machine without any trial and error method for the
required yield, which in turn increases the accuracy, reduces the machining time and cost.
